In 1886 the chief rabbit inspector of New Zealand decided to introduce a population of Stoats to keep the population of rabbits down. The only problem with this was that New Zealand is also home to many Flightless Birds, like the Kiwi. These stoats eventual played a role in making some species of kiwi nearly extinct or extinct. The Little Spotted Kiwi was diriven to extinction by the combines efforts of the stoats, pigs, and cats.
